Xiaomi Releases India-Specific Theme in MIUI Theme Store

Xiaomi marked its entry to the Indian market with the launch of its Mi 3 flagship. It also announced the Redmi 1S and the Redmi Note smartphones. To celebrate its entry, the company on Monday had announced a new India-specific theme in its MIUI theme store.

The latest India-specific theme comes with various wallpapers of Indian landmarks and icons designed for the Indian users.

The news was confirmed by Xiaomi's Global Vice President, Hugo Barra who said in a Facebook post, "Namaste! To celebrate our launch in India tomorrow, we've made this beautiful theme specially designed for you - Mi fans from India! If you have a Mi phone or are running Mi Launcher on your Android, it's now available for you to download from the MIUI Theme Store. Kya aapko pasand aaya?"

For those unaware, the Xiaomi's MIUI is a highly tweaked version of the Android and features number customizable themes. It is a highly tweaked version of the open-source Android operating system and brings a number of customisability features such as a brand new dialler and messaging interface on the handset, while also adds various privacy protection tools. Notably, Xiaomi says updates for MIUI are provided every Friday, adding that the UI is updated based on user feedback. The company claims that the MIUI has over 1.5 million registered users.

Xiaomi, often called the 'Apple of China', launched its first smartphone in Indi, the Mi 3, at a price point of Rs. 13,999 and availability starting July 22.

The Xiaomi Mi 3 runs MIUI version 5, a highly tweaked version of Android 4.4 KitKat. It comes with a 5-inch full-HD LCD display (1080x1920 pixels) offering a pixel density of 441ppi. Other highlight specifications include a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 (MSM8274AB) processor; 2GB of RAM; Adreno 330 GPU; 16GB of inbuilt storage, and 3050mAh battery.

The company also announced the Redmi 1S (Rs. 6,999) and Redmi Note (Rs. 9,999) will be launching in India in August.
